Windy at times and cool.Manylion y daith/Meet details We left the cars in a lay-by (the old road) near two houses on the right going north out of the village of Gyrn Goch (one mile south of Clynnog). Taking the track past Cwm-gwared and on up the public footpath through Cwm-Gwared Plantation to the top point near the river where a crossing was found of the ffridd wall. Taking a line due east we arrived at the wall before the summit of Bwlch Mawr, which was crossed at the junction of two walls with a little difficulty. ‘Paned bach’ was taken near the trig point and then led by Harold we descended to the Llŷn Coastal Path and turned westwards, passing Clawdd Seri, an earthwork fron before 1200AD. Here Gerallt took a group photograph because the party was splitting up. Haf, John W, Tom, Holgar and Harold took a more direct line to the summit of Gyrn Goch, while the rest of us followed the wall to the ‘Cairns’ where we had lunch and then by various routes to the summit of Gyrn Ddu. The wind had increased and then the sun came out. We headed down the north west side and then towards Gyrn Goch finding easy ways to cross the walls. The descent from Gyrn Goch northwards took us to a path above the plantation past sheep folds and a pleasant path behind the settlement of Gyrn Goch and so back to the cars and whence to Spooners!! |
